First Day Of Winter
The Meteorologist in me feels compelled to point out that today is the first day of Winter.
Actually, Winter is officially called the Winter Solstice which begins at 5:23pm today, Friday, December 21. This is the astronomical first day of winter in the Northern Hemisphere.
The Winter Solstice is the day with the fewest hours of sunlight of the whole year. In the Northern Hemisphere, it always occurs around December 21 or 22. (In the Southern Hemisphere, the winter solstice occurs around June 20 or 21.).
So, now that Winter is here… does it feel more like Christmas?
