Florida Will Not See “Human Size” Bats
If you’ve seen the photo that’s gone viral, don’t worry. It’s not coming here. People are freaking out over a bat hanging upside down that looks like it’s 5 feet tall. It’s not. The photo IS legit, according to Science Alert. They say in some parts of the world, bats can grow to pretty crazy sizes. This one in the Philippines that went viral was taken from an angle that makes it look more terrifying than it really is. The photo that went viral was just taken in a perspective that made it look enormous. Check out the second angle and it’s a lot less frightening. They say the wingspan of some bats can be over five feet wide. But their bodies are usually less than a foot long.
But don’t get too worked up about it. You won’t see one around here. The “megabats” are found mostly in Africa, India and Asia. They’re also called “flying foxes.” And they eat fruit. So you’re good. [Source: Science Alert]
