The 5 Big Tampa Bay Construction Projects For 2021
With the coronavirus keeping many working from home, Florida construction crews are doing what they can to speed things up on improvements to Tampa area highways and roads. Here are the 5 projects that are in the works for this new year, according to the Tampa Bay Business Journal.
Howard Frankland Bridge Replacement
This is the big one. $865 million will be spent to create an 8-lane bridge. The existing bridge will eventually be removed. They hope to have the job done by 2025. We’ll already see impacts from this one this coming weekend.
Big Bend Road I-75 Interchange
Work will start this fall. It’s a $93.4 million price tag to add a new northbound ramp and a new southbound off ramp if you’re going from Big Bend westbound so you don’t have to cross over to get on 75. There will be lots of other changes in that area too, including improvements for pedestrians, bus and bike riders.
I-75 at MLK
A design team will be put together this year. The project to improve the area will cost about $4.7 million.
I-275 widening
They’ll be adding a lane to the stretch from I-4 to north of US Highway 92 at Hillsborough Avenue. They’re still in the design stage for this project with a price tag of just under $3 million.
Bayway Bridge Replacement
This one should be done by summer. [Source: TBBJ]
