Another West Coast Fast Food Chain Is Coming to Tampa
No, sorry it’s not that one. All the noise over the past few weeks about Florida trying to woo In-N-Out to open up here was just that… noise. The chain has no intention of changing its business model, which requires restaurants to be within a few hundred miles of their production facilities. But it made a catchy headline for politicians and TV news stations trying to get some website visits.
There IS one chain from the west coast that has its eyes on the Tampa area though. Creative Loafing reports that “Dave’s Fried Chicken” is on its way to Florida. They say the goal is to open 8 locations in the Tampa area. They’re specifically looking at Hillsborough, Pasco and Polk counties. Sorry Pinellas. They’re looking for 2-3,000 square feet of space and there needs to be room for a drive thru.
Dave’s Fried Chicken has a big following in Los Angeles. They started in an East Hollywood parking lot. Instagram helped them grow fast among the late night crowd. Rapper Drake was such a fan, he bought in and is an investor. The menu is pretty simple stuff. Spicy hot chicken is what they do. And not much else. But that tends to work well with fast food places. Having a focus on one kind of food tends to mean they get it right. It’s one of the reasons In-N-Out has done as well as they have.
Dave’s fried chicken tenders can be ordered with no spice, lite mild, mild, medium, hot, extra hot and “reaper.” Side options include mac & cheese, french fries (with or without cheese), and kale slaw. They also have chocolate, vanilla and strawberry shakes they say that are made with real ice cream. [Source: Creative Loafing]
