Tampa Bay Weekend Concert Preview: 7 To Choose From
The number of concerts featuring Q105 artists this weekend is a little overwhelming. Between the shows at the Florida Strawberry Festival, Busch Gardens, St. Pete Grand Prix, Amalie Arena and downtown St. Pete, you’ve got a ton of options.
Busch Gardens
This weekend is a big one for the Busch Gardens Food & Wine Festival Concert Series. Two Q105 favorites will take the stage this weekend. Up first, 90s rockers the Goo Goo Dolls play Saturday. The Goo Goo Dolls are best known for their Q105 hits like “Slide,” “Black Balloon,” “Iris” and “Name.” On Sunday, Starship featuring Mickey Thomas wraps up the weekend with Q105 80s favorites like “We Built This City” and “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now.” There’s no extra charge for the concerts at Busch Gardens. Your park admission gets you in. Get to the concert area early for a good view. But if you run late, you can buy an upgrade to get seats closer to the stage.
St. Pete Grand Prix
Catch the Poison lead singer for a performance at the Grand Prix in St. Pete. The concert will happen at the festival fairgrounds near the Mahaffey Theater. The show is General Admission and free with your ticket to the races. Even though it’s just Bret and not the rest of the band, you can be assured he’ll perform all of Poison’s big Q105 hits like “Nothin’ But A Good Time,” “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” and “Talk Dirty To Me.” Also for 80s hair band fans, Jon Bon Jovi will be on the scene this weekend too. He won’t be performing, but will be seen in one of the cars during the races.
Florida Strawberry Festival
Things are winding down this weekend at the Florida Strawberry Festival in Plant City. Today, the Commodores will get you groovin’ when they bust out their Q105 Saturday Night Dance Party classic “Brick House.” Then Foreigner takes the stage on their lengthy farewell tour. Sadly though we’ve heard the news about Mick’s health and he won’t be there tonight. He was the last remaining original member of the band, so for many, this will feel almost like a cover band. But the band still sounds great. I got to see them at a Q105 concert at Busch Gardens about 3 years ago. While the names of the members have all changed, you’ll still feel the energy from the 70s.
St. Pete
The two ’90s rockers play Jannus Live in downtown St. Pete. Extreme is best known for their Q105 hit “More Than Words.” But fans of the band know they rock much harder than that one hit. If the name Living Colour doesn’t ring a bell, they’re the band that did “Cult of Personality.” (Or CM Punk’s ring entrance song for you pro rasslin’ fans.)
Tampa
Amalie Arena will be packed Sunday night to see two Q105 Saturday Night Dance Party favorites from the 90s when Ricky Martin and Enrique Iglesias team up to take the stage. Lots of great 90s jams for this one… like Livin’ La Vida Loca, and Bailamos. Pitbull will perform too.
