How To Make A Classic Mint Julep
The Kentucky Derby is always run on the 1st. Saturday in May!
So, if you are going to have your own Derby-party, you’ll want to know how to make the official drink of the Derby: The Mint Julep.
The Mint Julep is fairly easy to make. Just follow this simple recipe:
Ingredients:
- Crushed Ice
- 2 sugar cubes (or 1/2 ounce simple syrup)
- 4 to 5 mint sprigs (leaves only)
- 2 1/2 ounces bourbon whiskey
- Garnish: Mint sprig
Add the mint leaves along with sugar (or some simple syrup) into a julep cup (usually metal), Collins glass, or double Old-Fashioned glass.
Grind (or mMuddle) the ingredients into the bottom of the glass well (to dissolve the sugar and release the essence of the mint).
Add your preferred bourbon.
Fill with crushed ice and stir well.
Garnish with the sprig of mint.
