Updated Timeline on Tampa to Orlando High Speed Rail Service
The Tampa Bay Business Journal reports that Brightline has a better idea of when work on high speed rail service between Tampa and Disney World could begin. If all goes as planned, construction would begin in 2025.
First, before the service between Tampa and Orlando, they will need to finish work on service from Orlando International Airport to Disney Springs. That work would begin in 2024. It’s about a 16.7 mile path.
The extension to Tampa would be another 68 miles. If the Tampa part of the plan falls apart, they doubt any expansion of the service to Fort Myers or Jacksonville will happen either. The rail service for Orlando to West Palm Beach, which goes on to Fort Lauderdale and Miami, is being worked on right now. They are about halfway done with that. Work should be done on that by the end of next year and service could start in 2023.
