Last night, on the “Let’s Go” podcast with Jim Gray, Tom Brady said this:
“I’m still going through the process I said I was going through. Sometimes, it takes some time to really evaluate how you feel, what you want to do. When the time is right, I’ll be ready to make a decision, one way or another.”
Tom also addressed everyone’s desire to know the answer now and ESPN going with the story on Saturday saying that the retirement announcement was coming soon:
“We’re in such an era of information and people want to be in front of the news often. I totally understand that. I understand that’s the environment we’re in. I think for me, it’s just literally day to day with me. I’m responsible for what I say and do, and not responsible for what others say or do. One thing I learned about sports is you control what you can control. What you can’t, you leave to others.”
Brady went on to say again that the decision isn’t just about him… that his plans impact a lot of people. So the answer is… there is no answer. Yet. Brady isn’t denying that he’s retiring. But he’s not confirming it either. I have friends who tell me that Brady’s decision is being timed so that he makes more money by holding off on the announcement. It’s entirely possible he’s being honest… maybe he just hasn’t made up his mind yet.
