My First Visit to Greenlane, a HEALTHY Drive Thru in Tampa
You haven’t seen many salads in my #GenoAteTampa reviews and social media posts. I’m a burgers, wings, steak and chicken parmesan kind of guy. My car pulls into a drive thru more often than my primary care physician would like. So it definitely caught my attention when I heard about a drive thru with healthy food opening on Gandy in Tampa.
Greenlane opened this year at 4495 West Gandy Boulevard in Tampa, just a block away from Wendy’s, McDonald’s, KFC and a bunch of other drive thru spots where you can load up on fried, fatty, salty awesomeness.
They invited us over to try out their salads and wraps yesterday. I had a game plan in mind. First, I’d try the salad. Then to fill up, one of my favorite Tampa area Chinese food takeout places is not terribly far away. Spoiler: I never made the trip to get crab rangoon or sweet & sour chicken. This salad MORE than filled up this 6’4″ nearly 300 pound giant. Wait til you see it. Let’s drive thru.
The verdict…
When I’m driving along Gandy on the Tampa side, will I stick to the 4 for 4 at Wendy’s? It’ll depend on my mood, but honestly, I really did like Greenlane. For $10, that’s an enormous salad. I like how they put all the extras on top so you can mix them in with the lettuce as you go, as you like. Everything was super fresh and crunchy. Places like this that offer a limited menu tend to do the few things they do… right. And that’s the case here.
When I got back to the radio station, I wasn’t hungry when my show wrapped up at 7. That’s rare. But healthy food fills you up. Fast food usually doesn’t have the healthy stuff you need so you are hungry again a few hours later. So props to Greenlane. The only other salad I’ve ever considered a meal is the 1905 Salad at Columbia Restaurant in Ybor.
On my next visit, I’ll probably go with the Chicken Caesar wrap with pretzel sticks. There will definitely be a next visit.
