If you are commuting to or through downtown Tampa, especially near the Tampa Convention Center or the Port of Tampa, expect delays because of a Mass Casualty Drill.

Roads to Harbour Island are shut down, and we are receiving reports that traffic is already really BAD.

It is a drill. It's just a drill. But the drill is going to create delays and detours for folks. It is a massive emergency response simulation, which is being put on by the City of Tampa Police Department.

It's a training session for first responders to prepare for an actual emergency. There will be dozens of local agencies participating in this, including the Tampa Police Department and the Tampa Fire Rescue. What if there was an actual big emergency took place? What would happen? This simulation is practice for that.

According to Mayor Jane Castor, "This exercise is crucial for our city. It prepares us to respond effectively to any worst-case scenario and ensures the safety of our community.” She made this statement in a press release from City of Tampa.

If you are driving in that area and you hear loud noises or explosion sounds, that is wat it is related to. There will be volunteers with fake wounds. Don't be alarmed. This simulation continues at the Port of Tampa this afternoon.

Road Closures Around Tampa Convention Center Because Of Drill

As we mentioned Harbour Island access is tough right now. Specifically, here are the roads that are closed around the Tampa Convention Center:

Franklin Street is closed southbound from Channelside Drive to Harbour Island Boulevard Bridge.
Franklin Street is closed northbound from Channelside Drive to Harbour Island Boulevard Bridge beginning at 8:00 A.M.

These roads will be open once again at 12:00 P.M.

Roxanne’s Day Running The TPD Obstacle Course

I had such an amazing time meeting members of the Tampa Police Department and Chief Lee Bercaw.

Friday was an exciting day! TPD invited all of us from Q105 and Beasley Media Group out to participate in an obstacle course. This is the same course that prospective police officers and current police officers have to run. Not only did I do it, but Fester from the MJ Morning Show did it, as well, and did an amazing job.

Thank you for having us out there to be a part of this! We certainly appreciate what police officers do!

Let's go!

This obstacle course was TOUGH and you have to beat the time of 5 minutes and 4 seconds to qualify for the force.

You had to do this twice in the obstacle course

This was the final stretch of the course.

After getting out the car, grabbing the radio, running 220 meters, jumping over a big box and running through obstacles, carrying a 150lb dummy, running back through the obstacles and another 220 meters. THEN you grab your things back in the trunk of the car, get in the drivers seat, buckle up, and two hands on the wheel.

What an honor to meet the new Chief of Police
