Unique Dining In The Dark Experience Coming To Tampa
I am so excited to hear that Dining in the Dark is coming to Tampa!
If you’ve never heard about Dining in the Dark, allow me to explain. It’s just like it sounds. They refer to it as a blindfolded gastronomical experience like no other. It’s happening at the Centre Club off of Westshore. You will be blindfolded WHILE you eat. This heightens the experience, because without your sense of sight, your other senses kick up a notch. For the meal, you choose between meat, seafood, or veggie options.
The first time I heard about Dining in the Dark was in Chelsea Handler’s autobiography. She wrote of going to a Dining in the Dark type of restaurant in Paris. And to be funny, of course, she disrobed while she was eating. We DO NOT recommend this. The servers wear special glasses so they are able to see as they serve the food. They noticed Chelsea had no clothes on, and she was promptly kicked out to the restaurant. Enough about Chelsea’s insane antics.
Dining in the Dark in Tampa Experience
I did something similar in Atlanta years ago. They had a whole experience where you were taken around places that were pitch black. You were guided to cross a busy intersection, go grocery shopping, and then sit down and have a meal and beverage. During the meal, your guide reveals to you that he is blind and explains this is what it is like for him all the time. It was an enlightening experience. One of the coolest parts about it was that you were seated next to strangers, and it was quite interesting to get to know someone without seeing their face. I’m sure we’ll be seated at tables with other people we don’t know so that will be very interesting!
Dining in the Dark has been in other big cities around the country, but this is a first for Tampa. The first event is April 26, and the events will run into June. No doubt, this is a bucket list experience for me, and I’m pumped we’ll have the opportunity to do some Dining in the Dark in Tampa.
