Roger Waters Says David Gilmour Continues to Ban Him from Pink Floyd’s Website

Roger Waters recently released a new version of Pink Floyd’s “Mother” recorded while in lockdown, but it sadly helped serve as a reminder of the continued rift between him and David Gilmour.

Waters released the video message below following the release of “Mother.” While Waters would go on to thank fans for their kind comments and for helping the clip rack up a number of views, he mentioned, “…it does bring up the question: Why is this video not available on a website that calls itself the Pink Floyd website? Well, the answer to that is because nothing from me is on the website. I am banned by David Gilmour from the website…I proposed all kinds of measures to get past this awful impasse that we have…Whoever 30 million of you who subscribe to the webpage, you do so because of the body of work the five of us created: That’s Syd [Barrett], me, Rick [Wright], Nick and David over a number of years. It seems to me that it would be fair and correct if we should have equal access to you all and share our projects.”

This “ban” has been brought up by Waters before. He told Rolling Stone in October 2019 he last spoke to Gilmour in June 2019. “We had a big meeting where I came up with a big peace plan that has come to nothing, sadly,” said Gilmour. “…I bet all Pink Floyd fans are sorry to hear that. They all hoped that we could kiss and make up and everything would be wonderful in a cozy, wonderful world. Well, it wouldn’t be all that cozy or wonderful for me, because I left Pink Floyd in 1985 for a reason. The reason being that I wanted to get on with my work…[My solo work is] not allowed [on the Pink Floyd website.] [Gilmour] censored it, and I’m not allowed to announce anything on it.”

Rogers was scheduled to go out on tour in North America this summer, but like most other tours, Rogers’ “This is Not a Drill” tour has been postponed. Rescheduled dates have yet to be announced.
