Publix Helping Florida Farmers
Publix is achieving their goals to help farmers in our state.
The supermarket chain bought more than 5 million pounds of produce and more than 350,000 gallons of milk from Florida and southeast farmers just over the past two and a half months.
Publix put this initiative in place to help farmers facing insurmountable challenges because of the coronavirus pandemic. Farmers were forced to waste so much of their product since restaurants weren’t buying.
Their goal was to purchase fresh food from Florida farmers and dairies to donate directly to Feeding America food banks throughout the company’s seven-state operating area.
CEO Todd Jones said, “As the harvest season moves north, so is our initiative, expanding to support additional farmers and serve as many people as possible.”
Publix Super Markets Charities gave in excess of $17.5 million to Feeding America and member food banks over the past five years.
