Tampa Twitter Hacker Was Already Under Investigation
Crazy that it was a teenager from Tampa who is the suspected orchestrator of the large-scale Twitter hack.
His name is Graham Clark, and he’s accused of gaining access to many high-profile Twitter accounts. He went before a judge this past weekend.
The folks over at 8 On Your Side did an investigation and found out that he’s been under investigation before. He allegedly cheated people out of money. Last year, Clark’s home was searched after prosecutors in Santa Clara, California and in Hillsborough County ordered it, but the case was dismissed in April 2020.
Brandon McCrillis is the CEO of the cybersecurity firm, Rendition. He said, “Investigators of the recent Twitter breach could tell that it was not the work a nation state.” Clark was simply able to compromise a Twitter employee account and then gained access to the likes of Barak Obama and the other high-profile accounts.
“Tracks weren’t covered very well, the activity of Mr. Clark was traced exactly back to his apartment,” said McCrillis. “Using that kind of access for a Bitcoin scam, shows a level of immaturity and a lack of tradecraft.”
He added, “All of the hackers…we’re all a little weird.”
Today Clark is set to be arraigned on 30 felony counts.
