Hillsborough County Schools Superintendent Steps Down
A message went out to parents of students in the Hillsborough County school system on Thursday from Addison Davis, Hillsborough County Public Schools Superintendent Addison Davis, detailing his departure from the position.
Davis stepped down from his position, effective July 14. He’d served 39 months as Superintendent.
He made the following statement in a press release: “It is with a conflicted heart that I have elected to resign from my position as Superintendent of Schools in Hillsborough County Public Schools. Over the last 39 months, I have been blessed and honored to lead the 7th largest school district in the nation. During this time, this administration has worked collectively and collaboratively with the School Board to obtain historic improvements in every facet of our organization.”
There’s been a crazy amount of turnover among school district superintendents in our state during the past couple of years. over the past three years. Sounds like a tough job because 40-plus district leaders have stepped down since 2020. The pandemic likely played a role in the turnover, as well. And locally, we’ve seen 4 counties (Pinellas, Manatee, Sarasota, and now Hillsborough) with changes in that position in just the last 12 months.
I had a chance to sit and chat with Addison Davis when we both happened to be at the same table for an event raising money for children in need in Tampa. He seemed like a genuine, smart person who really cares about the kids in the community.
