Straz Center Expansion On The Horizon
Can we expect that the Straz Center expansion plan will be happening? If you are a fan of watching performances at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts, you will be thrilled to know that this amazing place is going to expand.
Over the years, I’ve attended performances at Morsani Hall or Ferguson Hall including Wicked, Rent, the Nutcracker Ballet, just to name a few. They also hold amazing events there including dance recitals and shows. Gregory Holland had a lot to say about the potential for expansion. He is the President and CEO for the Straz Center and shared his thoughts on coming changes. “The Straz Center had grown for all those years and we’re now frankly running out of room and this push to expand the Straz Center matches with the expansion of the Tampa and Tampa Bay region.”
Straz Center Expansion Timeline
The renovations and expansion construction should be starting later this year. It will take about three years to complete the project, which includes erecting two new buildings. The Straz wants to build more programs to assist youth performance development, as well as veterans. And get ready to enjoy tasty food and beverages in the second building. You’ll find restaurants and even a rooftop bar. And you don’t have to buy a ticket to an event to enjoy those new spots.
Holland explains, “So many of these spaces and stages are new opportunities to bring local artists to perform at the Straz Center to invite audiences to experience these aretists and these production and free of charge in the next exterior spaces that we’re creating.”
Of course, none of this will be cheap. The plan is to raise at least $100 million to get this expansion going.
