Dangers With Lithium Batteries Hit Close To Home
Are you aware of the dangers with lithium batteries that are needed for some of the latest “new technology” battery-powered products? If you have a lithium battery stored in your garage, you’ll want to know what happened to a friend of the MJ Morning Show.
Dave LeGarretta calls into the MJ Morning Show and we play “Make Dave Laugh” with him. Well, the story we must share with you now is no laughing matter.
Dangers With Lithium Batteries: Garage Fire
Dave has a son named Sid who lives in Fort Worth, Texas. He was in his home and smelled smoke. He figured out that it was coming from the garage. The garage was filled with smoke. His truck almost burned to smithereens. What was the cause? The fire started because of Sid’s charger to his lawnmower. It failed, overheated, and caused the fire. Sid’s truck, a less than one-year-old Tacoma pickup, was destroyed. Hard to believe this was a red truck, not a charcoal black.
After the scary incident, Dave reached out to MJ because he wanted to bring awareness to listeners about potential dangers that could arise when you store lithium batteries and have them plugged in. Thank goodness Sid was okay!
There are some things that can go awry when you store or use lithium batteries. They can overheat, cause a fire, and/or cause an explosion. And it can be very difficult to extinguish a fire caused by these lithium batteries.
