ZooTampa’s Stingray Shores Is Open To All Guests

ZooTampa’s Stingray Shores is top on my list for experiences to try.
This spring they debuted their Stingray Shores exhibit. What makes this so special?
It’s an up-close interaction with stingrays. You actually get to touch the stingrays. Of course, it’s a completely safe environment. You don’t have to worry about being stung by a stingray. When you arrive, you’ll get ready to get into the water with the rays.
Stingrays are fascinating to me. I’m particularly interested in stingrays, as likely are many locals, since stingrays live in our waters around Tampa Bay.
You want some fun stingray facts? Have you ever thought about why a stingray has the coloring it does. It’s that sandy color. It’s not a coincidence. It reflects the shade of the seafloor so the rays can get some nice camouflage and hide from predators. Sharks and larger rays might find smaller rays to be tasty. The problem, of course, is that beachgoers might get a nasty sting if they don’t see a ray underwater. That’s why it’s always a good idea to shuffle your feet.
The Stingray Shores exhibit isn’t the only new thing at ZooTampa. You can also check out the new Aussie Trek. It’s presented by Outback, and ash you can imagine, has an Australian-theme. You can go on a really cool safari and learn about wildlife you might see down under. And enjoy the food from the Outpost Grab N Go Market or the Boomerang Bar. Try some of their delicious Australian-themed food items. Be adventurous. If it’s a hot summer day at ZooTampa, check out the Billabong Splash Pad brought to you by Bank of America.
So much fun stuff to do at ZooTampa. ZooTampa’s Stingray Shores is tops on my list.

What ZooTampa Could Look Like After Their $125 Million Expansion
There are some BIG changes coming to ZooTampa in Lowry Park. This morning, ZooTampa announced its expansion plan to add more attractions and expand the park all the way to the Hillsborough River. This multi-year vision will add new immersive wildlife experiences, dining, entertainment district and more. The project is expected to cost $125 million and will take about 20 years to complete.
ZooTampa does some incredible conservation work. Mostly known for the David A. Straz, Jr. Manatee Critical Care Center, which is the first of its kind. Their team has treated over 400 manatees and has reintroduced 230 of them into Florida waters. One of the first projects to be completed in the new expansion is an expanded manatee rehab facility, which is expected to debut in 2026.
In a press release from ZooTampa, President and CEO Joe Couceiro said: “As ZooTampa embarks on an even more extraordinary future, we remain committed to transforming with the resilient Tampa Bay community.”
Some changes have already unveiled. The new immersive Florida Wilds area features expanded habitats for endangered and threatened native species
