4 Florida Cities That Broke Heat Records Memorial Day Weekend
Memorial Day is the unofficial kickoff to summer and it sure felt that way all around the Tampa area this weekend. But that’s not where the record heat was found. Newsweek reports that 4 Florida cities broke heat records this weekend.
While it was hot here in Florida, much wilder weather was seen throughout the country. Texas in particular has been dealing with extreme heat over 100 degrees, wild winds and tornadoes. WFAA says there are a half million without power this morning.
All of this is scary given that forecast last week that this will be a ferocious hurricane season with warmer waters that can fuel extreme storms.
The 4 Florida Cities That Broke Heat Records
The highest temps in Florida over Memorial Day Weekend were mostly seen inland, thanks to ocean breezes cooling the coast a bit for us here in the Tampa area. But it Miami, they hit a record high of 96 degrees, according to Newsweek. Fort Lauderdale hit 96 as well. West Palm Beach hit 97. In Central Florida, Fort Pierce got up to 98.
What about this week?
The National Weather Service tweeted this morning that a weak front will likely bring rain today in the Tampa area. Temps should top out in the upper 80s along the coast but will creep back into the 90s if you’re inland. ABC Action News meteorologist Greg Dee says you’ll notice higher humidity.
