Tampa’s New Area Code For 2021

We’ve always known it’s 727 for Pinellas and 813 for Hillsborough. But now those who live in the Tampa area will have a new area code: 656. The State of Florida Public Service Commission announced the new area code last week, but many are confused as some seem to think it means your phone number will change if you currently have a 813 number. It won’t. The new 656 area code will be assigned to new customers adding a new line. Plus the new area code won’t be ready for about a year, according to a PSC representative. There is about a 13 month waiting period before numbers are issued. The new area code will have the same geographic boundary as the old 813 one. If you have any questions, call (850) 413-6482.
