I’ve lived in Tampa now for about 10 years so when I go home to Maine to see family, I turn into a tourist – looking for lobster rolls and snapping pics of the red and gold leaves.  If you want to plan a visit to New England to see the foliage, your best bet is to fly in mid-October.  By Halloween most of the leaves have fallen.  In early October, the changes are just starting to happen.  I suggest flying into Boston because they have direct flights from Tampa.  Then just take a fast and easy 2 hour bus ride up to Portland, Maine.
