A popular Tampa Bay TV news personality revealed her future plans on Twitter tonight. Fox 13’s Kelly Ring is planning to leave the news desk in May after over 30 years in television. Ring made her debut on the station in October of 1985. She made the announcement that she’ll be leaving Fox 13 tonight via social media:
“I remember when I walked into this Television Station for my first day of work more than 3 decades ago, I was a wide-eyed reporter, and didn’t know a single person, but wow an amazing journey had begun.
That’s why it’s not an easy decision to let you know that I’m going to wrap up my television career in the next few months. It’s difficult to say goodbye to something I love so much, and I’ve done for just about all of my adult life.
As I’m writing this, I’m overwhelmed with a feeling of gratitude on so many levels. Our loyal viewers who have allowed me into your homes every night, my amazing co-workers who are the absolute best in the business, and my beloved family, my husband and three children who are the center of my world. I’ll walk away grateful that I have met so many of you and been able to travel far and wide telling your stories. I will never take a single moment for granted. My parents, who were the most loving, supportive mom and dad ever always told me how blessed I was to have a career that I love… and they were right. (They were always right!)
But after much reflection, we’ve decided this is a good time to finish this important stage in my life. I’ve worked the nightshift for a long time, and while I’m not sure what my days will look like, I am already looking forward to dinners on a Friday night without watching the clock, traveling with my husband who’s been by my side for this amazing journey and visiting our children who live far from their mom and dad right now. Our first born just got engaged so we have some excitement ahead.
One thing’s for sure, the Tampa Bay area will always be our home and I will continue to serve this community that I love so much. I’ll be around for another few months. My last day on the air will be May 25th.”
Fox 13 colleague Paul Dellagatto reacted on Twitter: “Great career. Even better person. We are blessed to have her as a part of our community.”
