Florida’s Top 10 Grocery Chains
Are you loyal to one supermarket when you go to get your groceries? The Tampa Bay Business Journal reports that a real estate firm has run the numbers and Publix has once again taken the top spot to get the milk and bread with over 650 million visits. But they say that number is actually down by 3%. The #4 chain is the one gaining ground.
So who’s sneaking up behind the giant? They say Winn-Dixie had 113 million visits. That put them at #2.
It’s a discount grocery chain at #4 showing big gains… Aldi. Aldi is a no-frills shopping experience for sure. You have to slip a quarter in to use a grocery cart. You have to bring your own bags. And the selection is far smaller than what you’ll find at Publix. But for those tradeoffs, you definitely see lower prices. I’ve dropped in a couple times. I wouldn’t do the majority of my shopping there, but I definitely see the appeal. I saw eggs at Aldi for about $3. That’s about half the price of the big chains right now.
The TBBJ says dozens more Aldi locations are coming in Florida. One just opened in Bradenton. Other chains that came in the top 10 for Florida behind Aldi included Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, and The Fresh Market, according to the article. [Source: TBBJ]
