Billy Joel Concert TV Special in Tampa Info
APRIL 15 UPDATE: After the mess up last night with CBS cutting off the concert in the middle of “Piano Man,” the network is apologizing and says the special will air again Friday at 9pm.
ORIGINAL STORY:I’ve been looking forward to tonight’s Billy Joel Concert TV Special for weeks. Ever since it was announced CBS recorded Billy Joel’s 100th show at Madison Square Garden, I’ve had it set on the DVR. Check out this preview of tonight’s show. It airs locally here in the Tampa area on Channel 10 at 9pm.
The final show of his Madison Square Garden residency is coming up in July. 1978 was when Billy first played the Garden. For the past 10 years, he’s had a series of shows at the famous New York City venue. Tickets are crazy expensive so tonight’s TV special will be good for Billy’s Tampa area fans who don’t want to shell out all that money for plane tickets, a hotel and tickets to the concert.
Billy Joel Concert TV Special Cameos
Look for Jerry Seinfeld and Sting to make an appearance tonight. We got to see Sting and Billy together here in Tampa recently at Raymond James Stadium. This concert was filmed just a few days after that concert. We’re not sure which of these will make the TV special, but at the concert that night, the two performed “Big Man on Mulberry Street” and “Every Little Things She Does is Magic” together.
Songs Billy Performed That Night
Other big Billy Joel Q105 hits performed that night include “My Life,” “Movin’ Out,” “Allentown,” “Uptown Girl,” “You May Be Right,” “Big Shot,” “It’s Still Rock and Roll To Me,” “We Didn’t Start The Fire,” “River of Dreams,” “Don’t Ask Me Why,” “Piano Man,” and of course “New York State of Mind.” Billy also did his first new song in decades “Turn The Lights Back On.” As for how many of these Billy Joel hits we’ll see on TV tonight, we’ll have to wait and see. The concert special airs from 9 to 11pm, but with timeouts for commercials, that leaves room for about 15 songs.
