Q105 Time Capsule: Cyndi Lauper’s Music Video with ’80s WWF Wrestlers
The Goonies is an iconic ’80s movie. But my favorite memory is from the soundtrack. I was a huge pro wrestling fan as a kid and will never forget the awesome cheesy music video for “The Goonies ‘r’ Good Enough.” You see my childhood hero “Rowdy” Roddy Piper (I was never a Hulk Hogan fan) along with “Classy” Freddie Blassie, The Fabulous Moolah, Nikolai Volkoff, Captain Lou Albano, and The Iron Sheik. Unfortunately most of these wrestlers are no longer with us. I was lucky enough to work with a bunch of them during my short career as a pro wrestling ring announcer in the 90s. Nikolai was one of the nicest guys and more of a character than his pro wrestling persona.
Cyndi Lauper featured this video on her social media this week to celebrate the 35th anniversary of its release. The funny thing is Cyndi tried to bury this song for the longest time. She hated it and refused to play it in concert for years.
