Why A Lakeland Florida Lottery Win Was Extra Emotional
Geraldine Gimblet’s daughter showed up with her in Tallahassee to claim a big Florida Lottery grand prize this week. The two had been through a lot and the money couldn’t have come into their lives at a better time.
The Pipkin Road Beverage Castle in Lakeland was the lucky spot for Geraldine Gimblet to play her favorite kind of game. She has a thing for the crossword games. When the gas station attendant thought they were all sold out, she asked them to double check. There was one $10 ticket left. She bought it. And it paid off big.
On Friday, Geraldine went to Tallahassee to claim her $2 million win playing the Bonus Cashword scratch-off game. She opted to take the lump sum payment of $1,645,000. That money will come in handy as she recently helped her daughter pay for her final cancer treatments.
Her daughter said, “The day before my mom bought this ticket, I rang the bell and walked out of the hospital after completing my last treatment for breast cancer. My mom had taken out her life savings to take care of me when I was sick. I’m just so happy for her!” Congratulations to both of them!
