Three Tampa Men Charged In IRS Fraud Scheme
Callers pretending to be IRS agents demanding payment or the penalty of arrest were caught and indicted in Tampa.
Three men were indicted for the scheme that fooled victims into paying using gift cards or payday loans under the threat of being arrested.
Calls were made with fake caller-ID numbers, though the calls originated in India. The three were charged with wire fraud and extortion. The charges can carry a sentence up to 20 years.
