Hillsborough County Votes On Mask Mandate
The Hillsborough County Emergency Policy Group voted 5-3 on whether to mandate masks.
And the vote will require masks through the county for everyone indoors at for-profit businesses when social distancing can’t be maintained for anyone over 2 years old. You are not required to wear masks at home. Businesses will be allowed to deny service to customers who do not wear masks. There are also exemptions for medical conditions.
Other exemptions include people who do not work with others, or whose jobs are already distanced from others. Also, people who are exercising while social distancing. People who are eating or drinking do not need to wear masks while doing so. People for whom wearing a mask would conflict with the Americans with Disabilities Act are not required to wear a mask.
The new policy goes into affect on Wednesday (6/24) at 5 p.m. and will need to be re-approved each week. This falls in line with the cities of Tampa and St. Petersburg who had already mandated masks to be used in businesses. The city of Lakeland chose not to make the same mandate.
