Clearwater Marine Aquarium Released Rehabbed Loggerhead Turtle
The Clearwater Marine Aquarium brought in the threatened turtle, and after several months, have released her back to the wild from Clearwater Beach, and they posted the video for us to see.
After taking in a female loggerhead turtle on April 26, “Luna” was nursed back to health after being found on St. Pete Beach. She was described as lethargic and undernourished with algae and barnacles on her shell, weighing 217 lbs. When they released her, she was up to a healthy 245 lbs. According to the Aquarium’s website, they have rescued over 1200 sea turtles since 2010. Today we released Luna, an adult female loggerhead! Weighing in at 245lbs makes her the largest CMA rehab patient in 10 years. Today we released Luna, an adult female loggerhead! Wednesday, Luna was brought to Clearwater Beach by the Sandpearl Resort where she was released back to the Gulf of Mexico. The animals that are taken in that cannot be released find homes at the CMA, including the famous Winter the Dolphin.
