VIDEO: Clearwater Beach Fisherman Surprised By Humpback Whale
While fishing off the coast of Clearwater Beach, he had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see it in the Gulf of Mexico.
While humpback whales do visit just about every part of the globe, seeing them breach in the Gulf of Mexico is a rare sight. Nicholas Lynch of Manatee County was about 30 miles off the coast of Clearwater Beach when he put down his fishing reel and picked up his phone to get the amazingly rare video.
Fox 13 News reports that the last time a humpback whale was reported in Florida was in 2018 off Panama City. A NOAA representative said that reporting and documenting these sightings is important.
