Tampa International Airport Adds New Technology For Travelers
The latest changes coming to Tampa International Airport will make traveling easier for some groups of passengers.
The addition of facial recognition technology will allow international travelers access to areas without a boarding pass. The airport will use the biometric camera-based system to 11 gates for summer, 2021. The system will compare images from U.S. Customs with passports or visa photos that are on file.
The airport hopes the system will make it easier to handle more travelers. Also, they hope to draw more flights from other countries. According to Tampa Bay Business Journal, Tampa International Airport has been investigating facial recognition technology since early 2019.
Tampa International Airport is seeing the return of travelers that had decreased during the pandemic. New domestic direct flights have been added, and the airport is looking at multiple cities in Europe and South America.
