Florida High Speed Rail Adds Another Possible Destination
Brightline, which already has service on the east coast of Florida, as well as future service from Orlando to Tampa, may be expanding to another destination.
Brightline will, once they complete their planned expansion, have high-speed rail service from Miami up the east coast of Florida. It will turn west to Orlando and Walt Disney World, then continue to the Tampa Bay area. Currently, the service is running from Miami to West Palm Beach with the Orlando extension under construction
There’s a call from U.S. Representative Darren Soto to add service to Polk County. The believed result is that increased service from the Brightline rail will mean increased investment and development. Lakeland, Davenport and Haines City are cities that Soto considered would be sites for service.
There’s no official plan for this expansion, yet. However, expansion of the railway is something the state does expect to see in the future. Along with Polk County, the Orlando Economic Partnership President and CEO Tim Giuliani would like to connect Volusia and Brevard Counties. With an increase in the population of central Florida, this would be an additional way to alleviate traffic congestion.
3 years ago, we were taking riders from MIA to WPB. Today, we’re halfway done building tracks that will connect Mia to Orlando & we’re not stopping there! Catch a behind-the-scenes look into our progress tomorrow during our Facebook Live @ 11:30 AM! #OnTrackToOrlando pic.twitter.com/MNSXzVyic1
