Winter The Dolphin Fighting Infection At Clearwater Marine Aquarium
Team members are watching Winter, who is showing signs of illness.
Clearwater Marine Aquarium rose to fame when the story about Winter the Dolphin and her prosthetic tail was turned into a feature film. She has lived at the aquarium since she was rescued in 2005. She was only about two months old when she was found tangled in crab trap line. Her tail was lost, but after adapting to the tail built for her, she made a complete recovery.
Now, since living the past 16 years at Clearwater Marine Aquarium, her team noticed that something wasn’t right about her and she wasn’t eating. Bloodwork showed signs of a gastrointestinal infection.
An update about Winter in a statement on the CMA website:
“Our dedicated staff will continue to keep a close watch on her through this healing process and provide her with the highest quality of care.”
The statement continued:
“As we hope for her quick recovery, our team is monitoring Winter around the clock. We will keep the public informed of any change in her condition.”
