Clearwater Marine Aquarium Temporarily Closes To Save Winter
When tests showed that Winter was suffering an illness, experts were caring for the famous dolphin. Conditions have not improved.
Tests showed that Winter was fighting a gastrointestinal infection earlier this week. In an update that came late Wednesday night, conditions have not improved. In fact, the “abnormalities have intensified.”
While Winter’s condition has been changed to ‘critical,’ the Clearwater Marine Aquarium experts are working with veterinary specialists from across the country. As a team, they are doing what they can to save the dolphin’s life.
In order to focus on the care of Winter, Clearwater Marine Aquarium has announced a temporary closure of the facility beginning Friday. The Aquarium plans to reopen on Saturday, November 13.
We’ll keep our eyes open for updates. None of the other animal residents of Clearwater Marine Aquarium have signs of illness.
Winter came to Clearwater Marine Aquarium in 2005 when she was found with a crap trap line wrapped around her tail. Her tail wasn’t able to be saved, but with the help of a prosthetic tail designed for her, she was able to recover fully. The story became the feature film “A Dolphin Tale”. You can watch the video below to learn more about Winter.
