Video: Hillsborough Deputies Rescue Boaters In Tampa Bay
Tampa‘s Beer Can Island, also known as Pine Key, has been the subject of legal issues for years. This past weekend, however, it was the scene of a rescue when a boat capsized.
Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office was called about 5:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon about a capsized boat. A marine unit was sent and 11 people were found to be in the water around the boat. Most were wearing life preservers.
Video from HCSO showed two individuals were hanging on to the capsized boat. Several others had been picked up by other nearby boaters.
Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement:
“Thanks to the willingness of some local boaters to help out, a group of 11 people, consisting of men, women, and children, were saved after they were stranded in the water when their seacraft capsized. Almost all the victims were wearing life preservers. We remind everyone to always have the right amount of life vests for each person on a boat, as well as keeping stock of all other safety and emergency equipment.”

Hillsborough County Fire Resuce Marine Unit, U.S. Coast Guard and Sea Tow also assisted in the rescue and recovery of the boat.
