Pinellas County Announces SunRunner Start Date

SunRunner, the soon-to-start rapid bus system in Pinellas County’s PSTA system is a new type of transit for the Tampa Bay area.

The St. Petersburg area will soon have a rapid transit system that has its very own lane. SunRunner connects the most popular areas of St. Pete, St. Pete Beach and downtown St. Pete. It’s not on the road with the rest of traffic, so it won’t face the same traffic issues as regular buses. The vehicles are hybrid electric so there’s less gas used.

SunRunner will connect more potential customers with the busiest areas along its route. SunRunner also is friendly for cyclists as well as pedestrians. With vehicles arriving at stops each 15 minutes during peak travel times, workers will also be able to rely on it for daily commutes.

There are 30 planned stations on the SunRunner corridor. For the first six months of operation, it will be free to ride. The planned start date for SunRunner is October 21, 2022. You can find the route and stations here.

Four Ways To Save With 2022 Back-To-School Florida Sales Tax Holiday

As we approach the return to classes, it’s also time for back-to-school shopping. Florida has a sales tax holiday to help save on what you need before school begins.

The 2022 Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday runs from Monday, July 25 through Sunday, August 7. There are four categories of items that are exempt from state sales tax during the tax holiday. They are Learning Aids (New for 2022), Clothing & Accessories, School Supply Items, Computer and Computer Related Items.

Here’s what qualifies for the tax exemption for each category:

  • 1. Clothing & Accessories

    The “clothing and accessories” category covers quite a wide variety of items with a sales price of $100 or less per item.

    Here are some examples of tax exempt clothing and accessories. The list includes but isn’t limited to:

    Aerobic and fitness clothing
    Baby clothes
    Backpacks and book bags
    Baseball cleats
    Bathing suits, caps and cover-ups
    Belts
    Bicycle helmets (youth)
    Blouses
    Boots (Not including ski or fishing boots)
    Bowling shoes (purchased)
    Bras
    Choir and altar clothing
    Coats
    Costumes
    Coveralls
    Diaper bags, diapers, inserts (adult and baby, cloth and disposable)
    Dresses
    Formal clothing (purchased)
    Gloves (dress, garden, leather, work)
    Graduation caps and gowns
    Gym suits/uniforms
    Hats
    Hosiery and pantyhose
    Jackets
    Jeans
    Lab coats
    Leggings, tights, leg warmers
    Leotards
    Lingerie
    Pants
    Raincoats, rain hats and ponchos
    Receiving blankets
    Robes
    Safety clothing
    Scout uniforms
    Shirts
    Shoes (including athletic), shoe inserts and insoles
    Shorts
    Ski suits (snow)
    Skirts
    Sleepwear
    Slippers
    Slips
    Socks
    Suits, slacks and jackets
    Suspenders
    Sweaters
    Swim suits and trunks
    Ties
    Tuxedos (purchased)
    Underclothes
    Uniforms (work, school and athletic, excluding pads)
    Vests

    Non-exempt clothing and accessories include:

    Briefcases
    Duffel bags
    Rented clothing or shoes
    Gloves (baseball, batting, bicycle, golf, hockey, rubber, surgical or tennis)
    Ice skates or inline skates
    Key chains
    Luggage
    Ski boots (snow)
    Ski vests (water)
    Skin diving suits
    Wigs

    Items that do not qualify for the exemption include: watches, jewelry, or clothing or other items purchased at a theme parks, entertainment complex, public lodging establishment or airport. If you didn’t see a particular  item on this list, then click here for the complete list.

  • 2. Learning Aids (New for 2022)

    This new category was added for 2022. Items in this category that are tax exempt must be $30 or less per item.

    Here are examples of “Learning aids” that are tax exempt during the Florida sales tax holiday:

    Electronic books
    Flashcards
    Interactive books
    Jigsaw puzzles
    Learning cards
    Matching games
    Memory games
    Puzzle books
    Search-and-find books
    Stacking or nesting blocks or sets
    Toys that teach reading or math skills

    Items that are not exempt include learning aids or puzzles purchased at a theme parks, entertainment complex, public lodging establishment or airport. Click here for the complete list.

  • 3. School Supply Items

    School supplies that are exempt from taxes must have a price of $50 or less per item.

    Those items that are tax exempt during the tax holiday include:

    Binders
    Calculators
    Cellophane (transparent) tape
    Colored pencils
    Compasses
    Composition books
    Computer discs (blank CD’s only)
    Construction paper
    Crayons
    Erasers
    Folders
    Glue (stick and liquid)
    Highlighters
    Legal pads
    Lunch boxes
    Markers
    Notebook filler paper
    Notebooks
    Paste
    Pencils, including mechanical and their refills
    Pens, including felt, ballpoint, fountain, highlighters and refills
    Poster board
    Poster paper
    Protractors
    Rulers
    Scissors
    Staplers and staples

    School supplies that are not exempt include:

    Books not otherwise exempt
    Computer paper
    Correction tape, fluid or pens
    Masking tape
    Printer paper

    Items that are not exempt include school supplies purchased at a theme parks, entertainment complex, public lodging establishment or airport. Click here for the complete list.

  • 4. Computer and Computer Related Items

    Behind clothing, probably the largest category of back-to-school items. These items must have a sales price of $1,500 or less, when purchased for non-commercial home or personal use.

    Examples of computers and computer related accessories that are tax exempt during the tax holiday include:

    Computer cables
    Car adapters for laptop computers
    Compact disk drives
    Computers for non-commercial use (desktop, laptop, tablet)
    Computer batteries
    Data storage devices (such as blank CD’s, diskettes, flash drives, jump drives, memory cards)
    Docking stations for computers
    E-book readers
    Headphones/earbuds
    Printer ink cartridges
    Computer keyboards, mice, microphones
    Monitors (not with TV tuners)
    Printers
    Routers
    Scanners
    Software (non-recreational, such as antivirus, educational, word processing)
    Computer speakers
    Computer storage drives
    Tablets
    Web cameras

    Non-exempt items include:

    Batteries (regular)
    Cases
    Computer bags
    Computer paper
    Cellular phones
    Copy machines
    Digital cameras
    Game systems/game controllers/games
    MP3 players or accessories
    Surge protectors
    TV’s

    Items that are not exempt include computers or computer-related accessories purchased at a theme parks, entertainment complex, public lodging establishment or airport. Click here for the complete list.
