Road Closure To Affect Tampa Bay Drivers Overnight
There will be an overnight road closure next week. If you cross the bay in Tampa, you’ll need to know what road will be closed during the overnight hours early next week. Here are the details.
During construction on I-275, the southbound lanes traveling over the Howard Frankland Bridge, which we know so well as the Howard Frankenstein Bridge, will be affected. The road will close beginning 11 p.m. on Monday, August 15. The road will reopen Tuesday, August 16 at 5 a.m. All of this is based upon the weather.
If you plan to cross the bay during the road closure, here are your detours. First, I-275 southbound in Tampa will direct you to exit at U.S. 92 (Dale Mabry), Exit 41A. Detoured traffic will go south to Gandy Blvd. to cross the Gandy Bridge into St. Petersburg.
Additionally, you can still take I-275 to the airport/Clearwater exit to take the Courtney Campbell Causeway across to Clearwater.
This road closure will not affect northbound traffic on I-275.
This is all being done as the Florida Department of Transportation continues work on the “Gateway Expressway” in St. Petersburg. This closure is for crews to install overhead signs as part of the “Gateway Expressway” project.
