Clearwater’s Decision On Downtown Cleveland Street Closure
The city of Clearwater had closed a segment of Cleveland Street to allow for socially distanced outdoor dining.
Officials now know how businesses have fared since the closure began in May. The city has chosen to extend the closure of the 400 and 500 blocks of Cleveland Street through April 16, 2021.
This area is in the heart of downtown Clearwater. The closure allows businesses and their customers space to enjoy the outdoor space without cars passing through.
According to Clearwater Community Redevelopment Director Amanda Thompson:
We remain committed to helping our restaurants provide a safe, outdoor dining experience downtown. New restaurants have opened, there is live music in the evenings and local merchants have recently launched a new discount program. The city, the CRA, the Downtown Development Board and the Downtown Clearwater Merchant’s Association have worked together to create a safe and fun atmosphere whether you are dining in or ordering takeout.
Businesses are encouraged to follow state, local and CDC guidelines for health safety during the Covid-19 pandemic. This includes use of masks indoors and outdoors, 6-foot distancing and avoiding large gatherings.
