Florida School Bus Driver Drunk On Shift Arrested
When the school bus driver arrives for a shift, this is the last think you’d expect. To make it worse, it happened with a bus full of students.
Flagler County Sheriff’s Office took a 60-year-old driver into custody on Wednesday. He reportedly had been drinking before his shift. A co-worker reported the scent of alcohol to supervisors, but the driver began his route.
There were approximately 40 students on board, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office. The bus driver made stops at their various bus stops. Supervisors attempted unsuccessfully to contact him on a radio.
The driver contacted the school district on the radio that he was having, according to the FCSO, a ‘medical emergency.’ He was met by a supervisor on his route, during which time, the driver exited the bus and fell to the ground. He was taken to a hospital where he was met by deputies.
The Sheriff’s Office revealed his blood-alcohol level tests were .32 and .31, and for those not familiar, that’s 4x the legal limit. He’s being charged with:
- Driving Under the Influence with Passengers Under 18
- Resisting Officer without Violence
- At least one charge of Child Neglect.
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office also noted that the man had been cited for ‘Failure to Obey a Stop Sign’ by the Florida Highway Patrol three days earlier stemming from a school bus crash on this same route.
